About Templeton Shinbu Dojo

Aiki Jujutsu

Aiki Jujutsu

Aiki Jujutsu

Our Aiki art is based on using your metaphysical center. With foundations in Aikido and Jujutsu such as balance, distancing, and timing, we learn to apply technique without excess force. We learn the balance between hard and soft technique and when to apply either one. In the advanced levels, these principles are utilized in the application of weaponry. Ultimately, techniques come from within, born of our own self-realization and finally transcending consciousness. Only through repetition and persistent training will the techniques become your own.

Jojutsu

Aiki Jujutsu

A "jo" is an approximately 4 foot stick, traditionally of Japanese white oak. The Shinto Muso-ryu tradition dates back almost 400 years. We are happy to be part of an unbroken transfer of knowledge from teacher to student and are one of a handful of dojo offering this art in the United States. After learning the basics of handling the jo, the student begins to learn pre-arranged forms [kata] requiring 2 people. One to wield the jo, and the other a wooden sword. There are 4 other ryu-ha that are introduced later in training, including the sword, walking stick, chain and sickle, and metal truncheon.
